Genis Steel worked with a build team to develop fireproof, heavy-duty modules to house backup batteries for a commercial data centre in Tullamarine, Melbourne.

The team produced 14 modules to house the batteries, and these were fitted out as fireproof rooms on concrete pads. Large chiller modules (12.4 m x 5.4 m) were also designed to house the air conditioning that supports battery operation at the data centre. Each chiller module weighed around 20 tonnes, so the team designed specialised lifting points for each module capable of supporting a combined weight of 34 tonnes (chillers and frames).

The modules were then craned in and connected to the rooftop on site. Genis Steel’s engineering and design expertise, particularly in developing custom lifting points, was crucial to the success of this project.
