1000-bed quarantine facility built in just 5 months

The Genis Steel modular team worked with Modscape and three other modular companies/fabricators to rapidly build a 1000-bed quarantine facility at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. 200 steel modules were supplied to the project which equated to 100 buildings. Each module was 4.5 metres by 15.5 metres and incorporated ~3 tonnes of steel. As well as supplying the structural steel modules, the Genis Steel team also incorporated external and internal walls into the modules using light gauge steel. 

The modular construction project was incredibly fast-paced. Genis Steel began producing two modules per day (1 complete home) but was able to quickly increase production to 4 modules per day with the same number of staff by implementing a continual improvement process. These gains were also enhanced by Genis’s internal processing plant that enabled faster steel fabrication with high levels of precision and quality control. 

Once Genis Steel completed the modules, Modscape fitted them out and installed them on site within just 18 days. Overall, the modular building approach cut the project delivery time by about half.
