New barracks and city staging facility for police horses
The Department of Infrastructure and Transport needed to quickly relocate the Thebarton Barracks of the South Australian Police (SAPOL) to make way for the new Women’s and Children’s Hospital.

The Thebarton Barracks Relocation and City Staging Facility project had very tight and strict deadlines that coincided with hospital construction and the planned movement of the ‘Police greys’ from their old home to a new site.

Genis Steel SA worked with BESIX Watpac to construct the barracks and staging facility. The new barracks included state-of- the-art stables to house the horses and a beautiful indoor sand arena for training. The city staging facility on King William Street in the Adelaide CBD was built to give horses and dogs a comfortable place to stay for short periods when they’re working in the city.

The tight construction program was a challenge for everyone, but a strong project alliance and great teamwork meant that we could hand the building over to SAPOL right on time.
